K-5 Mathematics

(150 Contact Hours, 15 PLUs, Certification Add-on)

Middle Georgia RESA GA PSC approved K-5 Math Endorsement for a total of 15 PLUs. The target audience for this class are math teachers who desire to increase their professional practice and efficiently within the K-5 setting. This program endeavors to abide by and provide expertise in accordance with PSC rule 505-3-.92 K-5 MATHEMATICS ENDORSEMENT PROGRAM .

Candidate admission to the MGRESA Endorsement Program requires the following:

1. A valid, level 4 or higher Induction, Professional, Advanced Professional, or Lead Professional teaching certificate, in one of the following fields:

(i) Early Childhood Education (P-5); (ii) Middle Grades Mathematics (4-8); (iii) Special Education General Curriculum/Early Childhood Education (P-5); or (iv) any of the following certificates combined with a core academic content concentration in mathematics: (I) Special Education General Curriculum (P-12); (II) Special Education Adapted Curriculum (P-12); (III) Special Education Behavior Disorders (P-12); (IV) Special Education Learning Disabilities (P-12); (V) Special Education Deaf Education (P-12); (VI) Special Education Physical and Health Disabilities (P-12); (VII) Special Education Visual Impairment (P-12); or (VIII) Gifted Certificate (P-12);

2. a minimum of one year of teaching experience.

Candidates must register online under Online Registration for each course of the K-5 Math Endorsement and follow the link to print the application for system approval.

This is a job-embedded program. Candidates must practice skills with students.

Course Descriptions

Course 1: Increasing Content Knowledge and Pedagogy in K-5 Number and Operations

This course endeavors to increase content knowledge in numbers and operations, and prepares candidates to effectively utilize best practice strategies and methods for teaching the Georgia Performance Standards in the K-5 setting.

Course 2: Understanding Geometry and Measurement

This course endeavors to increase content knowledge in geometry and measurement, and prepares candidates to effectively utilize best practice strategies and methods for teaching the Georgia Performance Standards in the K-5 setting.

Course 3: Increasing Content Knowledge and Pedagogy in K-5 Algebra, Data Analysis and Probability

This course endeavors to increase content knowledge in algebra, data analysis and probability, and prepares them to and prepares candidates to effectively utilize best practice strategies and methods for teaching the Georgia Performance Standards in the K-5 setting.
